UMFÍ 50+ National Games

Information

The UMFÍ 50+ National Games are a mix of sports competitions and other contests, physical activity and getting people in the prime of life to have fun together. The Games take place on 25–27 June in Hella.

The Games are open to everyone who turns 50 during the year or is older. Participants do not need to be registered with a sports club – anyone can take part, on their own terms.

Participation fee

The participation fee is ISK 6,000, which allows you to take part in all sports at the Games. Once the participation fee has been paid, you can register for individual sports. You do not need to register separately to take part in open events – just turn up and have fun with family and friends!

Tickets for the dinner and entertainment evening on Saturday 26 June are paid for separately. The dinner and entertainment evening has been very popular and there have been more people wanting to attend than places available. So make sure to buy a ticket as soon as your participation in the Games is confirmed. Tickets for the dinner and entertainment evening cost ISK 6,400.

Venue

The Games will be held on 25–27 June 2027 in Hella, in cooperation with Héraðssambandið Skarphéðinn (HSK) and the municipality of Rangárþing ytra.

Hella lies on the banks of the Ytri-Rangá river in the heart of South Iceland, surrounded by wide open landscapes where nature and farming go hand in hand. The volcano Hekla towers over the area. There are many walking and cycling routes, running paths along the river and mountain hikes for those who want more challenging outdoor activities.

Hella has a cosy town centre with a family-friendly swimming pool, sports area and campsite. It has a warm atmosphere and good facilities for guests at the Games. In the area you can enjoy local food, visit craftspeople, go sightseeing, play golf, go horse riding or enjoy the peace and beauty of nature.

Hella is only about an hour’s drive from the capital area and about 20 minutes from Selfoss.

Information about accommodation, activities and travel services can be found on the Rangárþing ytra website.

Rangárþing ytra welcomes participants of the UMFÍ 50+ National Games to a lively community where physical activity, togetherness and nature create a unique setting for the Games this summer.

Programme

The Games start on Friday morning and end in the middle of the day on Sunday. Competitions take place on all days, so it is impossible to take part in all of them. The idea is to choose a few sports and try something new.

Collecting your Games pack

Participants collect their Games pack from the Games office on arrival. More information about opening hours and location will be given in the programme.

At the Games office, participants receive, among other things, a wristband that entitles them to compete at the Games, which must be worn at all times. If a wristband breaks, you can always get a new one.

Sports and venues

There will be competitions in 22 sports for people aged 50 and over. The sports on offer are: boccia, table tennis, bridge, tractor driving, athletics, golf, tree planting, walking football, road running (open event), horse judging, motocross (open event), darts, plant identification, cornhole, putting, pancake baking, ringo, chess, shooting, spelling, welly throwing and swimming.

Accommodation

Guests arrange their own accommodation during the Games.

Activities other than competitions

Information coming soon.

Food and drink

Food and drink will be sold at most venues every day of the Games, with light refreshments, coffee and drinks.
