UMFÍ creates social impact through strong partnerships
UMFÍ runs a wide range of projects all over the country in cooperation with the government, municipalities, sports and youth clubs, the school community and many other partners. What the projects have in common is that they strengthen participation, physical activity, public health and social capital. Through strong partnerships, experience and a wide network, UMFÍ works on projects that make a real difference for people of all ages.
Projects
School Camp at Reykir
UMFÍ has taken over the running of the School Camp at Reykir in Hrútafjörður. At the camp, 7th-grade students from all over Iceland get the chance to build their leadership skills and self-esteem and work with their strengths and weaknesses to improve their social skills.
Communication Advisor
Everyone has the right to take part in sports and youth activities in a safe environment. The Communication Advisor is an independent party who supports, guides and assists those who have experienced any kind of violence or bullying in such activities.
Criminal record checks
Under the Sports Act and the Youth Act, it is prohibited to employ people and/or volunteers who have been convicted under the Narcotics Act (No. 65/1974) in the past five years or under Chapter XXII (sexual offences) of the General Penal Code (No. 19/1940). Here you will find forms for sports clubs.
Response plan
It is important that all staff in the sports movement know how best to respond if incidents such as bullying, harassment and/or violence occur. Here you can see a coordinated response plan for all sports and youth work in Iceland.
Toolbox / SIU.is
The sports movement’s Toolbox is a collection of practical information, templates and other useful material intended to support the activities, organisation and development of the sports and youth association movement in Iceland, especially sports clubs, coaches, board members, staff and others involved in the work. SIU stands for the cooperation between ÍSÍ and UMFÍ.
Joint projects of UMFÍ and ÍSÍ
Over the years, UMFÍ and ÍSÍ have worked together on many projects that have strengthened sports and youth work all over the country. The website siu.is has information about the federations’ joint projects.

It also shows results on participants’ satisfaction with their club, coaches and facilities, as well as the links between sports participation and factors such as substance use, academic performance, mental and physical health, sleep and energy drink consumption.
