Lottery income for member federations

Íslensk getspá and Getraunir

UMFÍ is involved in running two companies that operate on the Icelandic market.

The history of Íslenskar getraunir (Icelandic Pools) goes back to 1952. The first pools coupons mostly featured Danish and Swedish football matches, but over the years English football became the most prominent.

Íslenskar getraunir operates under Act No. 59/1972, which gives Getraunir the exclusive right to run sports pools in Iceland. By marking the number of a particular sports or youth club on a pools coupon, that club is supported.

The history of Íslensk getspá began in 1986. In 1999 a service agreement was made between Íslenskar getraunir and Íslensk getspá under which Íslensk getspá runs Íslenskar getraunir, and that agreement is still in force.

The profits from Íslensk getspá are paid out to the company’s owners, who then pass them on to their member federations according to special regulations set by the sports movement.

Getspá has three owners

47%

The National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland owns a 46.67% share.

40%

The Organisation of Disabled in Iceland owns a 40% share.

13%

Ungmennafélag Íslands owns a 13.33% share.

Annual report system

The UMFÍ and ÍSÍ annual report system is used as the basis for payments from Íslensk getspá.

UMFÍ and ÍSÍ encourage clubs to review their membership registers and check all information in the annual report system carefully. Each club is always responsible for checking its membership register before it is uploaded and confirming the correct numbers when submitting.

It is very important that the above information reaches the person in each club who is responsible for submitting the annual report.

What is in these reports?

  • The annual report must contain information about participants and members in the last reporting period, i.e. for the period 1 January to 31 December each year.
  • Key figures entered from the annual accounts for the last financial year.
  • Information about the board and staff.
  • Submit audited annual accounts and current statutes in PDF format.

The deadline is 15 April each year.
