Ragnheiður is from Ungmennafélagið Katla in Vík í Mýrdal, which is a member of Ungmennasamband Vestur-Skaftafellssýslu (USVS). She sat on the UMFÍ deputy board in 2013–2015 and on the main board in 2015–2019 as a board member. Following the 2019 congress, Ragnheiður became vice-chair of UMFÍ. A year later she swapped roles with Jóhann Steinar Ingimundarson, stepping down as vice-chair and taking over as chair of UMFÍ’s executive board, a position she held until 2025.
